Dear Valley Residents,
URGENT ACTION NEEDED
P.O.L.O. and Santa Ynez Valley Concerned Citizens have learned that a subcommittee in the U.S. House of Representatives has scheduled a hearing on H.R. 1157, the bill that takes the 1400 acre Camp 4 Property in Santa Ynez out of state/local jurisdiction and allows the Chumash to engage in unlimited development on the property. Even worse, the bill would terminate all your rights to appeal the decision. This is a targeted assault on our Civil Rights and must be stopped!
Multiple individuals and entities (9 and counting) have filed appeals to the decision by the western regional office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs opposing this flawed decision, and are following the prescribed legal process. The LaMalfa Bill H.R. 1157 would circumvent these efforts.
The hearing on H.R. 1157 is next Wednesday, June 17, at 11 a.m. in Washington, D.C. Information here: http://naturalresources.house.gov/calendar/eventsingle.aspx?EventID=398741.
To preserve our rights and stop Camp 4 from going directly into trust, WE MUST ACT TODAY:
1. Call or e-mail Rep. Lois Capps's office in Washington D.C. and urge her to attend the H.R. 1157 hearing next week, proclaim her opposition to the bill, and stand up for the rights of Santa Ynez Valley residents. She is our representative, and she must defend us! Call Rep. Capps's office:

2. Call Congressman Rob Bishop's office in Washington D.C. Mr. Bishop is the Chairman of the committee holding a hearing on this bill and controls whether it will ever get a vote. Tell him you oppose H.R. 1157 and are urging him not to allow this legislation to come to a committee vote. The bill must stop now! Call Chairman Bishop's committee office at 202 225 0453.
3. Call or e-mail Supervisor Doreen Farr and urge her to attend the hearing on H.R.1157 and stand up for the rights of the Santa Ynez Valley.

These calls are extremely important. This bill is being pushed by out-of-the-area interests who do not know the history of Camp 4.
